Miss Nicholson started her teaching career at Sheffield Hallam University and completed her 3 year course in 2011. She then started teaching at The Hill Primary school where she stayed for 4 years teaching in Year 6, 5 and 2.  She then started here at Oakwell Rise Academy in May this year teaching Year 1/2 class and is now in Class 5 teaching Year 2 and is thoroughly enjoying her time here.
 
Miss Nicholson loves spending time in the Lake District with her little puppy Martha, taking her on long walks on the beach. She also enjoys going shopping especially to Meadowhall with her friends and going to the cinema.  She loves experiencing new places and enjoys travelling to different cities her favourite cities so far were Budapest and Rome. She really dislikes tomato ketchup and mushy peas!
 

Working in Phase 2, we are lucky to have Mrs Ledger, Mrs Barman, Mrs Rennison and Mrs Castor-Smith who work across the three classes supporting our lovely children in their learning.
 
Mrs Barman likes going on holiday abroad.  She likes walking her dog Buddy, going to the cinema and watching Barnsley play football. She really dislikes onions!


 
Mrs Rennison likes going on holidays especially to hot places. She likes walking her little dog Meg and reading lots of books in her spare time. She hates mushy peas but always eats her sprouts.


 
Mrs Ledger loves spending time with her three beautiful boys. They love going on holiday, watching football and going home to Glasgow to visit family and friends. She loves going shopping but especially clothes shopping



New topic for Spring term…
This term we are diving into an exciting new topic of Traditional Tales and are encouraging children to read as many different tales as possible including Jack and the Beanstalk, Little Red Riding Hood and Three Billy Goats Gruff.
We will be embracing our topic through exciting design technology projects such as designing and making castles and different homes for the characters to live in. Also there will be exciting role play areas to play in to help enhance the children’s speaking and listening skills using masks and a puppet show to retell the traditional tales with props.
We will be still looking for our Top Spot writers each week. This is where a piece or pieces of children’s work is displayed on the Top Spot for fantastic handwriting, use of conjunctions and excellent description with exciting vocabulary.
 
 Key information:
Our Year 2 P.E day is on Wednesdays every week where children will need their full P.E kit with earring removed and suitable footwear.
Homework is sent out on a Friday to be returned by Wednesday.
Also don’t forget there is our weekly raffle draw for attendance, every child receives a ticket if they are in class on time by 8.55am. There is also a raffle for every child who returns their yellow reading records when they have been signed each night. The children can then change their book in school ready for the next day.
